1989 (Taylor’s Version) is the re-recording of Taylor Swift’s 2014 album, 1989. It was released on October 27, 2023 — exactly 9 years from the original release. The album was announced on August 9th, the last day of the first U.S. leg of The Eras Tour. The album consists of 21 tracks total, 5 tracks being newly released vault tracks. It has a runtime of 76 minutes and 28 seconds, about 13 minutes longer than the original deluxe album (only counting the 16 songs). Taylor has announced all four of the vinyl variants available for 48 hours.

Background

Taylor Swift lost the rights to her first six albums after her former record label, Big Machine Records, was sold to Scooter Braun’s Ithaca Holdings in 2019. This means that Braun owns the master recordings of Swift’s first six albums. In response to that, Swift announced that she would be rerecording her first six albums so she'd be able to own the master recordings of her music. So far, she has released Fearless (Taylor's Version), Red (Taylor's Version), and Speak Now (Taylor's Version). In late October 2023, she'll be releasing 1989 (Taylor's Version).

The phrase, "Taylor's Version", just means that it's a rerecorded version of an album that Taylor Swift now owns. All tracks on her rerecorded albums are subtitled, "(Taylor's Version)". She also adds unreleased tracks to her rerecorded albums called, "From The Vault" tracks.
