Emerald is the fifteenth studio album by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It was released on November 24th, 2032, through Republic Records.
Background[]
Swift's fourteenth studio album Sunflower Field released on August 4th, 2030 through Republic Records. After The Sunflower Field World Tour ended in August of 2031, Swift stayed low for a while. In June of 2032, Swift started to open back out to the public, and change her profile picture to a picture that read: "Fuck the critics who use computers and cameras, I'm too old school for that,". Fans got excited and guessed she was releasing a new album.
In August of 2032, Swift then again changed her profile picture to a photo of her in a green forest, but said nothing. A few weeks later, she made a post about how she loves to make music and can't wait to share more surprises as she continues her career. Her bio also changed, to another sentence, which read: "They told her not to stray from the path, but curiosity ran her of the track,".
Announcement[]
In September of 2032, after the VMA awards, she announced on a social media post, that she was pleased to have won a few awards the previous night, and because of that, she anounced she had been creating new music in January, and she'd be announcing her fifteenth studio album, Emerald, on November 24th, 2032. She posted the cover for the album, and said she'd be keeping eveyrone updated until the release date.
In October of 2032, Swift released the tracklist of her new studio album, featuring sixteen tracks, plus one bonus track, all stylized in lowercase, similar to her eighth and ninth studio albums Folklore, and Evermore. The month of the release date, Swift started promoting the album, while posting videos on Spotify and Apple Music, revealing lyrics to certain songs.
Release and Promotion[]
On November 24th, 2032, two versions of the album became available for purchase. The Standard Emerald Edition, and The Amber Deleuxe Edition. The Standard Emerald Edition featured all sixteen tracks, and The Amber Deleuxe featured the one bonus track. The same day, her song "typewriter" was released as the first single for the album.
On November 13th, 2032, the album became available to pre-save on spotify.
A week after the album released, the digital copies of the album became available to order. The album became the number one streamed album on spotify within an hour, and became her number one streamed album in her entire discography.
Music and Production[]
Like Sunflower Field, Emerald contains a wide variety of folk-pop songs, which appear in her songs like "typewriter", "pillow fort", and "alchemy". The album also features indie-folk songs, such as "baby blue", and "lock and key".
The album features Jack Antonoff, who produced a variety of songs on the album, along with Aaron Dessner, who produced most of the indie-folk songs featured in on the track listing.
Concepts and Visuals[]
Themes and Content[]
The album, from Swift's point of view, expresses her love for the olden-days, and this theme appears in many of her songs including, "typewriter", "historian" and "drive-in theatre". The album also shows elements of old folk-talkes, with songs such as "little red riding hood" and "providence"
Artwork and Aesthetics[]
The album's primary colour is green, which represents the albums aesthetic perfectly. The colour appears prominently in the photoshoot as well, along with the colour being mentioned in a few of the tracks.
